

BERLIN TENNIS OPEN BY HYLO DELIVERS A THRILLING SECOND DAY OF MAIN DRAW ACTION
The 2025 BERLIN TENNIS OPEN by HYLO delivered plenty of highlights, but there's still room for growth. Once again, a well-filled Steffi Graf Stadium was treated to a fantastic day of high-level tennis, featuring nine exciting matches: six in singles and three in doubles.
The day opened on Centre Court with a clash between former World No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka (JPN) and 2021 Berlin champion Liudmila Samsonova. In a tightly contested battle, Samsonova came back to win 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4. She will face defending champion Jessica Pegula (USA) in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
Qualifier Xinyu Wang to face CocoGauff on Thursday
Another surprise came from China’s Xinyu Wang, who advanced to the round of 16 after an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over World No. 16 Daria Kasatkina (AUS). Wang will take on Coco Gauff onThursday in what promises to be a must-watch dual.
In the first doubles match of the day, wild cards Paula Badosa (ESP) and Ons Jabeur (TUN) battled past StormHunter (AUS) and Desirae Krawczyk (USA) in a rollercoaster three-set match, winning 6-2, 0-6, 10-8 to book their spot in the next round.
Eva Lys and Marta Kostyuk out of doubles
There was disappointment for local fans in the second doubles match, as Hamburg’s Eva Lys and her partner Marta Kostyuk (UKR) were defeated 6-2, 6-2 by the Italian duo Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. Fresh off their French Open victory, Errani and Paolini dominated their opponents, wrapping up the match in just 57 minutes. Their quarter final opponents are yet to be confirmed.
Meantime in singles, Diana Shnaider maintained her solid level with a confident 6-2, 6-4 win over Donna Vekic (CRO). She will now face Marketa Vondrousova (CZE), who won againstAustralian Open champion Madison Keys (USA) in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(6). Amanda Anisimova (USA) also advanced to the next round, defeating Bianca Andreescu (CAN) 6-4, 6-3 is scheduled to meet with Magdalena Frech (POL) on Thursday.
In the last doubles match of the day, Lyudmyla Kichenok (UKR) and Erin Routliffe (NZL) got past Hao-Chin Chan(TPE) and Ellen Perez (AUS) 7-6(6), 6-4.
Birthday win for Elena Rybakina
With World No. 5 Qinwen Zheng (CHN) withdrawing due to injury, lucky loser Ashlyn Krueger (USA) stepped in to face 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina (KAZ). She celebrated her 26th birthday with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win. She will meet Katerina Siniakova (CZE) in the round of 16 on Thursday.
Sabalenka kicks off her tournament Wednesday, Gauff follows on Thursday
And there’s more top-tier action ahead! On Wednesday, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka kicks off her tournament against qualifier Rebeka Masarova (SUI), while Jessica Pegula takes on Liudmila Samsonova, and French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini meets crowd favorite Ons Jabeur. Then on Thursday, all eyes will be on French Open champion Coco Gauff as she makes her Berlin debut!
