WORLD NO 1 ARYNA SABALENKA ADVANCES TO THE SEMIFINALS

The day featured decisive quarterfinal battles at the BERLIN TENNISOPEN by HYLO 2025. The Steffi-Graf-Stadium was packed to capacity as the players on court delivered a spectacular show for the crowd! Both fan favorites, Paula Badosa (ESP) and Ons Jabeur (TUN), are out, much to the disappointment of the Berlin audience. Meanwhile, the star of qualifier XinyuWang (CHN) continues to shine brighter! She has advanced to the semifinals alongside world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova (CZE), and the 2021 BERLIN TENNIS OPEN titleholder Liudmila Samsonova in this WTA 500 tournament. 

Vondrousova defeats Jabeur for the first time since Wimbledon 2023

It was a match on Berlin’s grass that felt like déjà vu… and what a match it was. Two years after their last showdown in the Wimbledon final, Marketa Vondrousova (CZE) and Ons Jabeur (TUN) met again. Back then, Vondrousova lifted the Grand Slam trophy. Today, she repeated history with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 win, advancing to the semifinals of the BERLIN TENNIS OPEN byHYLO. The Czech has been in strong form all week, having already beaten world No. 6 Madison Keys (USA) and No. 12 Diana Shnaider. She will now face Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday’s semifinal.

British-Slovakian duo clinch final doubles semifinal spot

Olivia Nicholls (GBR) and Tereza Mihalíková (SVK) secured the last remaining doubles semi final ticket with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Lyudmyla Kichenok (UKR) and Erin Routliffe (NZL). The British-Slovakian team will now take on the well-rested Asia Muhammad (USA) and Demi Schuurs (NED), who advanced to the semifinals via walkover after Caroline Dolehide and Sofia Kenin withdrew.

Qualifier Wang through to semifinals after Badosa retires

Qualifier Xinyu Wang’s incredible run continues. After taking the first set 6-1 in her quarterfinal clash with Paula Badosa (ESP), the match ended prematurely as Badosa retired due to a right hip injury. Showing clear signs of pain, the Spanish player was unable to continue. Wang, currently ranked No. 49, is through to the semifinals where she will face Liudmila Samsonova.

Sabalenka outlasts Rybakina in epic quarterfinal battle

Aryna Sabalenka has booked her place in the semifinals after a thrilling battle with Elena Rybakina (KAZ). In a match that lasted two hours and 42 minutes, both players showcased powerful baseline rallies and mental toughness. Sabalenka edged the first set in a tense tiebreak 7-6(6), before Rybakina responded with a 6-3 second set. The deciding set also went to a tiebreak, where Sabalenka saved four match points to win7-6(6). The crowd witnessed a match of exceptional intensity at Steffi Graf Stadium.

Samsonova storms past Anisimova into semis

In stark contrast to the marathon match before it, Liudmila Samsonova breezed past Amanda Anisimova (USA) with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory in just 57 minutes. Samsonova, champion in Berlin in 2021, has looked incredible this week, having already defeated Naomi Osaka (JPN) and defending champion Jessica Pegula (USA). She will now face the tournament’s surprise package, Xinyu Wang, in Saturday’s semifinal.
