MAIN ROUND OF THE BERLIN TENNIS OPEN BY HYLO STARTED WITH STRONG MATCHES

With six singles and two doubles matches, the first day in the main drawof the BERLIN TENNIS OPEN by HYLO 2025 offered the spectators in thepacked Steffi Graf Stadium and on Court 1 thrilling matches and a successfulstart.

Emma Navarro (USA) played the first match of the main draw,securing an unchallenged 6-2, 6-3 victory over Marta Kostyuk (UKR).Qualifier Katerina Siniakova (CZ) also secured her place in the secondround of the main draw. She defeated another qualifier, Viktoriya Tomova(BUL), with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Ons Jabeur (TUN), the 2022 tournament winner, can also continueher journey in the Berlin tournament. After initially losing to Wang Xinyu(CHN) in the final qualifier on Sunday, she managed a 7-6(5), 6-1 victory inthe main draw against qualifier Caroline Dolehide after a very closefirst set. Jabeur will now face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini (WTA No. 5) in the nextround on Wednesday, who will be playing on Berlin grass for the first time.

Aryna Sabalenka's opening opponent on Wednesday is Rebeka Masarova

After her 6-3, 6-2 win over Sofia Kenin (USA, Australian Openwinner 2020), the journey continues for qualifier Rebeka Masarova (SUI).She will face three-time Grand Slam winner and world number one ArynaSabalenka in the next round. It will be Sabalenka's first match in Berlin.

Mirra Andreeva defeated, Paula Badosa beats Germany's Eva Lys

 There was a huge surprise in the penultimate match of the day. Worldnumber seven Mirra Andreeva lost to Poland's Magdalena Frech inthree sets 6-2, 5-7, 0-6.

For German hope Eva Lys, the dream of reaching the next round isalready over after a 1-6, 3-6 loss to Spain's Paula Badosa.

The American duo Ashlyn Krueger/Jessica Pegula recorded a 6-4, 6-4victory over Daria Kasatkina (AUS)/Donna Vekic (CRO) in the firstdoubles match of the tournament. China's Xinyu Jiang/Fang-Hsien Wu werebeaten 2-6, 5-7 by the duo of Tereza Mihalikova (SVK)/Olivia Nicholls(GB).

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng and Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina will serve on Tuesday!

 The BERLIN TENNIS OPEN by HYLO 2025 continues on Tuesday withfour-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka (JPN) taking on the winner of the 2021BERLIN TENNIS OPEN, Liudmila Samsonova, at the Steffi Graf Stadium. Thecurrent Australian Open winner Madison Keys (USA) starts the tournamentagainst Marketa Vondrousova. The match between the 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina (KAZ) and the Olympic champion from Paris, QinwenZheng (CHN), is also scheduled.

There will also be more exciting matches in the doubles tomorrow: TheItalian doubles team of Sara Errani/Jasmine Paolini will face thewildcard duo of Eva Lys (Germany)/Marta Kostyuk (UKR). In anotherdoubles match, Lyudmyla Kichenko (Ukraine)/Erin Routliffe (NZ) will face Hao-Ching Chan (TPE)/Ellen Perez (AUS).

And on Wednesday - as mentioned above - world number one Aryna Sabalenka will enter the tournament. After two free draws, she will facethe surprisingly strong Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova.
